Aftercare Services

Aftercare Services

Importance of Aftercare

The purpose of an aftercare service is to help you shift from treatment to self-reliance. Having an aftercare plan in place is a way to set yourself up for success in your recovery journey. Ultimately you must live life on your own terms and having that strong foundation will help you to make sure that you stay on the right path for you to achieve your dreams and goals.

Addiction is a complex, demanding, and frustrating condition, but effective treatment can help to improve the lives of people who struggle with it. When treatment options are extensively available and tailored to the needs of the individual, better results are possible.

Sober Residences

For people who started treatment with inpatient services, some form of sober residence could be an appropriate aftercare option. Sober residences may be most appropriate for people with risky home living situations or those who lack strong supports outside of treatment. There are therapeutic communities which are very structured programs that can last for 6 to 12 months. There is also recovery housing which offers short-term, supervised housing for people in recovery. There is the social model, which is also referred to as sober living, the social model offers no formal, professional treatment or staff in the home. Instead, the individuals within the home rely on each other for support and guidance. Residential re-entry centers, halfway houses, these centers are reserved for people in recovery that are also involved in the criminal justice system and require drug testing randomly or daily. These will share similarities to sober-living houses, but with more structure and accountability.

Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient recovery programs usually require 10 to 12 hours a week spent visiting a local treatment center. These sessions focus on drug abuse education, individual and group counseling, and teaching you how to cope without drugs or alcohol. Outpatient drug rehab can last three to six months and sometimes over a year. Outpatient Treatment gives you an opportunity to remain in your home environment while benefiting from a peer-oriented, structured therapeutic program. Your treatment plan progress can be assessed by professional staff on a regular basis. You won’t have to feel alone in your recovery journey with an outpatient program in place because you will be involved in individual counseling and group format counseling. A positive social change in your life facilitates long-term recovery.

Support Groups

Support groups can hugely benefit you in transitioning back into your life after treatment. Support groups help both newly recovering individuals and those in long-term recovery, alike, providing the support and guidance needed to maintain their sobriety. Programs like AA, Alcoholics Anonymous, offer a mutual aid fellowship with the stated purpose of enabling its members to “stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.” AA is nonprofessional, self-supporting, and apolitical. Its only membership requirement is a desire to stop drinking. Meeting makers make it. There are other types of support groups that you can find such as a church group, PTSD group, anxiety group, depression group, or even a family member if alcoholics group. The idea is to have humility and accountability by consistently going to the groups and participating. This will help to develop a strong sense of responsibility in you which you can then apply to other areas of your life.

Evoke Florida: A Premier Treatment Center

Taking the first step towards treatment for an addiction to alcohol or other drugs is a huge step that many people never take. But there is more work to do. Addiction treatment is not a process that ends after detox or an initial rehab program. Taking measures to live a drug-free lifestyle is a long-term commitment. This process can include a wide variety of treatment options and supports. As part of the continuum of treatment, addiction rehab aftercare is an important part of overall recovery. The most important part of having an aftercare program is to maintain recovery from substance abuse, find ways to prevent a relapse, and achieve the life you’ve always dreamt of which will be rewarding.
